Finally, all is complete. The butterfly emerges from the chrysalis and perches on a leaf or stalk, but its wings are tiny and crumpled from being folded tightly against its body. Then its heart pumps fluid into the wings and they expand. This butterfly is climbing up on a leaf but you can see that the wings are only partially expanded. |
